The "Berlin Air Safety Center" (BASC)

The Berlin Air Safety Center was responsible for controlling and monitoring the air traffic of Berlin and of the Berlin air corridors. Apart from the Spandau Prison for War Criminals, the BASC was the only institution managed by all four of the victorious powers throughout the Cold War. The Berlin Airlift would have been impossible without the constant coordination and flight safety activities of the BASC. Regular receptions with country-specific dishes were also part of the joint operation of the BASC.
